The Name
For the name, we took inspiration from the poem 'These Hands, If Not Gods' by Natalie Diaz. We chose this ad it has strong links to the LGBTQ community and explores sexual themes with biblical and holy references. The title which is also a line from the poem is the questioning how her hands are not like a Gods hands with all that they could do to her partner as they share love, furthermore providing emphasis on the strong connections between these two people. This links to our piece as it explores how a friendship between two late teenage boys develops into a relationship. Our piece explore how their emotional connection grows and how their relationship changes as they begin to explore their sexuality.
These hands, if not gods, then why
when you have come to me, and I have returned you
to that from which you came—bright mud, mineral-salt—
why then do you whisper O, my Hecatonchire. My Centimani.
My hundred-handed one?
